Of course! I thought you were referring to the Kitty Pryde sketch I posted earlier. I forgot I mentioned I didn’t know what brand mechanical pencil I was using in the Terra Speed Drawing video.

Hey Mr. Nauck! First off I have to let you know that I love your art style and that you are a huge influence on what I draw! I'm trying to improve my drawing skills right now and I can only draw something well if I have an image to copy from, would you recommend copying other people's styles as a good way to develop your own? Also, what artists have influenced you? :)

Thanks! I’m honored to know my work influences yours.
It’s okay to be influenced/inspired by your favorite artists. I think we all are! that’s part of the fun of comics and diversity of art styles.

(My top 4 influences are Arthur Adams, Rick Leonardi, Walter Simonson, and Alan Davis: my favorite X-Men artists as a kid in the 1980’s.)

More than likely, as you progress in your art skills, you’ll find yourself moving away from the “training wheels” of recreating your favorite art pieces to the next level of your art (whatever that may be for you).
As we start to draw more from real life/our own ideas & creativity and not relying on looking solely at our favorite artists, we start to develop our on artistic style.
I would encourage you not to try to hard to find your “style”. Just keep drawing as much as possible. And have fun! You’ll get there!

I think your mechanical pencil is a Pentel Twist-Erase. I have one that looks very similar, also in 0.5mm.

It is definitely a Pilot Eno mechanical pencil. Got it at jetpens.com. I have a non-repro blue and a red.

Hi Todd, Love your Excalibur sketch, do you plan to do a coloured version of it? I hope you don't mind I posted your sketch on my Blog called 'Throne of Otherworld which is maily dedicated to Marvels British heroes.

Thanks! The original Excalibur team is one of my favorites. No plans to color this piece. Just sketching on the couch while watching TV with the wife.
